I recently had a chance to try out the latest Zugu case for the 13-inch M4 iPad Pro, and I was impressed by its blend of style and functionality.
This case is designed for the latest iPad Pro models, but retains the key features that have made Zugu a popular choice among iPad users for 14 years.
design and protection
When I took the Zugu case out of the box, I was immediately struck by its minimalist look. I chose black for its understated and professional look. The cases also come in Slate (a subtle blue), Berry (a deep red), and Pine (a deep green). The soft faux leather exterior feels comfortable in your hand and provides a firm grip, unlike slippery plastic alternatives.
Underneath the exterior is a sturdy combination of TPU and polycarbonate that provides very good drop protection. (I haven’t had any accidents yet, but this definitely boosts my confidence.) Thick bumpers along the edges provide an extra layer of protection, especially in the corners of the screen. This is what I always look for in a case. The covers for the volume and power buttons are also nice to the touch and feel like rubber.
I was happy that the inside was made of soft microfiber and could prevent scratches on the iPad itself. Despite these protections, the case itself weighs a relatively light 515 grams and is only about half an inch thick with the iPad inside and the lid closed. The speaker and port holes are all well aligned, and the top cover is a particularly notable protective feature, completely covering the screen when closed. It also works with the iPad’s sleep/wake function. Keep it in your bag when commuting to work for extra protection from scratches and minor bumps.
Versatility and convenience
The adaptability of the Zugu case is definitely its distinguishing feature. The adjustable magnetic stand offers 10 different angles and is suitable for a variety of activities such as browsing, typing, drawing with Apple Pencil, and watching media. Another thoughtful detail is the presence of airflow vents to prevent overheating during long periods of use or intensive gaming matches.
During testing, we found the magnetic feature to be particularly good. By flipping the kickstand’s magnetic feet to expose them, I was able to easily attach the iPad to a metal surface like a refrigerator door. Follow recipe instructions in the kitchen and free up valuable counter space. Be careful not to slam the refrigerator door with the iPad attached.
Zugu also includes some neat storage options for your Apple Pencil. Recesses on the sides allow for easy snap-on wireless charging, and an elastic pocket on the back adds security when carrying.
summary
Considering that the 13-inch iPad Pro starts at $1,299, it doesn’t make sense to cut corners to ensure you’re always protected. I don’t skimp when choosing a laptop case, and the same applies here. For me, the Zugu case for the M4 iPad Pro offers an attractive balance of protection, functionality, and style at an affordable price of $79.99.
Versatile stand options, secure magnetic mounting, and thoughtful design features like vents and Apple Pencil integration set it apart from many competitors. Although magnets are generally strong, we recommend caution when mounting the case on a vertical surface. But overall, it’s a solid choice for anyone looking for a premium, feature-rich case for their iPad Pro.
