New colors, same screen
- New colors blue and purple
- 8.3 inch LCD screen
- Supports Apple Pencil Pro
The iPad mini (2024) is very similar to the iPad mini (2021), and in fact has exactly the same weight and dimensions at 195.4 x 134.8 x 6.3 mm and 293 g.
It has the same shape, with similarly large bezels around the screen, and once again houses the single-lens camera in the top left corner of the back.
The only major visual difference is color, with iPad mini 7 available in Space Gray, Blue, Purple, and Starlight (white) shades. However, only blue is actually a new shade, while purple is a different shade. It’s much brighter than the previous purple.
As for the screen, the iPad mini 7 features an 8.3-inch 1488 x 2266 LCD display with 326 pixels per inch and 500 nits of peak brightness. This is also the same as the previous model.
However, this time the display supports Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil hover.
Improved camera HDR
- 12MP f/1.8 rear camera
- 12MP f/2.4 front camera
- Supports Smart HDR 4
The front camera doesn’t have any major new features either, the iPad mini (2024) has a 12MP f/1.8 rear camera, but it’s been upgraded to Smart HDR 4 for improved dynamic range, which Apple says I argue that it should be done. Make your photos more detailed and vivid.
iPad mini (2024) can also record video in up to 4K quality, up to 60fps, and features a 12MP f/2.4 front-facing camera.
Powerful A17 Pro chipset
- A17 Pro chipset provides a major performance upgrade
- Supports Wi-Fi 6E
- 10 hours battery life
The main upgrade to the iPad mini 7 is the chipset. Powered by the same A17 Pro chipset as the iPhone 15 Pro, it delivers up to 30% faster CPU performance and up to 25% faster GPU performance than the A15 Bionic in iPad mini (2021).
It also features hardware-accelerated ray tracing and has a neural engine that’s up to 2x faster than the previous generation.
So not only should the iPad mini (2024) be able to run graphics-intensive games, but it should also generally feel faster no matter what you use it for. This additional power also enables AI. This is explained in more detail below.
iPad mini (2024) supports Wi-Fi 6E, so your data is faster too, with Wi-Fi speeds up to 2x faster than previous models.
You can also get iPad mini (2024) with up to 512 GB of storage, double the storage of its predecessor. The boot capacity has also been doubled to 128GB. As for the operating system, you naturally get the latest release, iPadOS 18.
As for the battery, Apple hasn’t disclosed the capacity, but says the iPad mini (2024) can last up to 10 hours of web surfing and video watching. And if you’re using mobile data on a cellular model, you should get up to 9 hours of use when browsing the web. It’s the same as iPad mini (2021).
You’ll have to connect it via USB-C to recharge, but there’s no wireless charging.
apple intelligence
- support apple intelligence
Perhaps the biggest new feature of the iPad mini 7, and the reason Apple is releasing it now, is AI. Apple Intelligence is coming soon, and previous iPad minis won’t support AI.
But thanks to the new chipset here, you’ll now have access to all kinds of AI features, including an Image Wand that turns rough sketches into relevant images, writing tools to help you optimize your lighting, and AI-enhanced document scanning. It will be.
There’s also Genmoji, which lets you create new emojis by typing a description or a photo, a cleanup tool to remove distracting objects in your photos, and improvements to Siri.
While these features have not yet been implemented, Apple Intelligence will begin rolling out to iPad mini (2024) and other compatible devices by the end of October, although not all AI tools will be available on day one.
