Apple quietly announced the new generation iPad mini (2024) via a Newsroom post on Tuesday. The company did not wait for another event to announce this updated product. The new iPad mini (2024) is Apple’s most affordable product with support for Apple Intelligence (not yet rolled out).

All first orders of iPad mini are expected to arrive next week, October 23rd. However, for benchmark enthusiasts, this device made it to the Geekbench list. The results confirm that the new iPad mini (2024) comes with more RAM and upgraded performance thanks to the binned A17 Pro chipset.

In the Geekbench listing, the iPad mini (2024) was spotted with the identifiers iPad 16,2 and J411AP motherboard. According to the Apple database, the identifier iPad 16,2 is confirmed to be an iPad mini Wi-Fi and cellular model with the A17 Pro chipset.

The iPad mini (2024) managed a single-core score of 2710 points and a multi-core score of 6543 points. For comparison, the previous iPad mini with the A15 Bionic scored around 2100 points in the single-core test and around 5400 points in the multi-score test.

The listing also reveals that the tablet is powered by a 6-core SoC architecture with a peak clock speed of 3.78 GHz, paired with 8 GB of RAM. Notably, the A17 Pro chip will be introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro series of phones, and Apple has revealed that the chipset will feature a hexa-core architecture, while the listing shows that the iPad mini (2024) will have 5 cores. It has been revealed that it has a GPU.

The 5-core GPU only confirms that the iPad mini (2024)’s A17 Pro chip is a downgraded version of the A17 Pro processor. According to MySmartPrice, the reason behind this could be that the iPad mini doesn’t require as much power, unlike the iPhone. A new iOS 18.1 update with Apple Intelligence features is expected to be released in the coming days.
