Apple’s first developer beta for iOS 18.2 is packed with features big and small for iPhone users. The highlight is the new Apple Intelligence feature, but there are also some nice changes for users who like to change their default apps.
iOS 18.2 makes changing your default apps easier than ever
As noted on Apple’s developer site, iOS 18.2 introduces a new hub in Settings for changing default apps, including defaults for messaging and calling for the first time.
These releases also include improvements to the Settings app area first introduced in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. All users worldwide will now be able to manage their default apps through the Default Apps section at the top of the app area. New calling and messaging defaults are also now available to all users worldwide.
On an iPhone running iOS 18.2[設定]⇾[アプリ]When you open the new[デフォルト アプリ]A section has been added.
Perhaps this section could include different options for users in different parts of the world, such as the EU. This is because local laws may determine which categories Apple provides custom defaults for.
Default app categories now include Messaging and Calling
In the US, iOS 18.2 Beta 1 displays the following categories:
- messaging
- make a call
- call filtering
- browser app
- password and code
- keyboard
The messaging and calling options are new and a great addition.
It’s also very convenient to have all of these default app settings in one dedicated hub. Managing and switching between default apps is now much easier than before.
Please note that the initial iOS 18.2 beta is only available on iPhones that are compatible with Apple Intelligence. However, in a future beta, this new default app hub will also be enabled on non-AI devices.
