Here are some of the features that iOS 18.1 may bring to your iPhone.
Apple intelligence features
The latest iOS update brings several Apple Intelligence features to some iPhones, including email compose tools, photo cleanup tools, and upgraded Siri. That means you can proofread and correct emails on your iPhone or remove distracting items from photos before sending.
However, before you can use these features, you must join the Apple Intelligence waitlist. To do so, please visit Settings > Apple Intelligence and Siri > Join Apple Intelligence waiting list and tap join the waiting list. Once approved, you will have access to the Apple Intelligence features listed above.
But that’s not the only Apple Intelligence feature on iPhone. For example, Apple’s AI-powered emoji generator Genmoji is not included in this iOS update and will be included in a future update.
These features are only available to owners of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max and the iPhone 16 lineup in countries outside the EU and China. If you have a base model iPhone 15 or earlier, you don’t have access to these features at this time.
Call recordings are delivered to your iPhone
With iOS 18.1, you can now record calls on your iPhone. When you’re on a call, you’ll see a symbol that looks like a sound bar in the top left corner of your screen. Tap this to start recording the call. When you start recording a call, an automated voice will notify you and the other party that the call is being recorded after 3 seconds. This feature works whether you’re talking to another iPhone user or an Android user.
When the call ends or you stop recording, your iPhone saves the recording to the Notes app. You can then play the call in Notes. You can see call transcripts in Notes on newer iPhones, such as the iPhone 14 Pro, but not on older iPhones, such as the iPhone XR.
Before using this feature, be sure to check with your local law enforcement regarding the legality of call recording.
Updated support for RCS messaging
When Apple released iOS 18, support for RCS messaging was introduced to iPhone. In iOS 18.1, this feature has been expanded to include Messages for Business. Prior to this update, Messages for Business was only available through iMessage, so this could make it easier for more businesses to communicate using iPhone.
Control center adjustments
One of the big changes that iOS 18 brought to the iPhone was a revamped Control Center, and Apple has made some tweaks to these changes in iOS 18.1.
In iOS 18.1, go to Control Center and[接続]If you tap on the tile (which shows Wi-Fi, airplane mode, and similar settings), you’ll notice that some controls are arranged in tiles instead of rows. shaped. This is a small change, but it gives you more control over your connection settings and may be helpful.
You can also add independent controls for Wi-Fi, VPN, AirDrop, and Satellite to Control Center. Previously, these controls existed on the connection tile or on the Connections page in Control Center, but you could not add them as their own controls. Apple previously allowed you to add independent Bluetooth controls to Control Center.
There are also new level and measurement controls that can be added to the Control Center. If you don’t have a tape measure or bubble level on hand, both the level and the tape measure can be useful for renovations.
If you don’t like your Control Center settings, Apple has added a way to reset Control Center to its default layout. go to Settings > Control Center and tap Reset control center.
Change your Apple ID’s primary email address
With iOS 18.1, Apple now lets you change or add a new primary email address for your Apple ID. To do either, Settings > Apple ID > Sign-in & Security. From here, tap on the option Add email address or phone number Alternatively, you can tap an existing address and tap the toggle next to. Primary email address. Once your primary email address is set, Apple will send messages to that address.
colored home screen widgets
Apple has also tweaked the iOS 18 feature that allows you to color home screen apps in iOS 18.1. When you add a tint to your app, it will also be applied to widgets on your home screen such as clock, battery, and calendar. Prior to this update, widgets were not affected by tint, only apps.
Sleep apnea detection
Apple announced in September that Apple WatchOS 11 will bring sleep apnea detection to compatible Apple Watches. This feature was subsequently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. According to MacRumors, iOS 18.1 enables the feature on compatible Apple Watch models paired with iPhones running the software.
expanded emoji keyboard
Another change in iOS 18.1 is the expansion of the emoji keyboard. When you go to the emoji keyboard and swipe left, instead of seeing a section for frequently used stickers, you’ll see a section for custom stickers. Swipe left again to see a new menu with full access to Memoji, making it easier to use Memoji in place of other emojis.
Emoji keyboard emojis are also slightly larger than in iOS 18. This isn’t a shocking change, but it is.
Drag and drop with iPhone mirroring
According to MacRumors, if you have an iPhone running iOS 18.1 and a MacBook running MacOS Sequoia 15.1, you can easily drag and drop files from one device to the other while mirroring your iPhone screen. You can now drop it. This could make file sharing between devices even more seamless than before.
