Indie App Spotlight: Generate eye-catching QR codes with just a tap with Qewie

Welcome to the Indie App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we introduce you to the latest apps from the indie app world. If you are a developer and would like your app featured, please contact us.

Qewie is a new iPhone app that allows users to easily generate unique and eye-catching QR codes, providing a clean interface throughout the experience. There are no ads, it’s simple and easy to understand. The developers are calling it the best and last QR generator they’ve ever used.

Qewie features

Qewie allows you to customize your QR code to your heart’s content. You can change the color, border, corners, pixels, pupil, and eyes of your QR code. You can also add a custom logo to the center of the QR code, but that requires a pro membership.

The app also has a neat little randomization button that lets you swap out the appearance of your QR code with a simple tap.

The free version of Qewie can only generate QR codes for URLs, but if you subscribe to Pro you can also generate QR codes for Wi-Fi networks, locations, and contacts.

Qewie is also built to be private. Qewie generates a QR code on your device, but does not send it to a server or collect any data. Once you’ve generated a QR code, there are easy buttons to share it, save it to a photo, export it as PDF or SVG (pro required), or add it to your collection.

Once you add it to your collection, it will be saved within Qewie so you can access it later.

About the developer

Joseph created Qewie because QR code apps on the App Store were notorious for having a bad user experience and being sketchy. QR code apps often display ads or generate QR codes that eventually expire, but Qewie does not do this.

He wasn’t satisfied with the QR code apps on the App Store, so he decided to create his own. This is our first app on the App Store.

In the future, we would like to see Qewie support iPadOS and macOS, have more customization options, and include the option to print QR code stickers.

download

Qewie is available for free in the App Store on iPhones running iOS 17 or later. Qewie Pro enables branded QR codes, additional export options, and QR code generation versatility and is available for $1.99 per month, $14.99 per year, or $19.99 for life.
