New Delhi: India is expected to have 1.2 billion smartphone connections by 2030, with half of the users using 5G smartphones, according to a new report.
The country’s 5G subscribers are expected to reach more than 641 million by 2030, an increase of 49%, according to global mobile network association GSMA.
GSMA Intelligence predicts that “India will see unprecedented growth in 5G mobile subscribers and explosive growth in data usage over the next six years.”
This tremendous increase in 5G subscribers will also lead to a significant increase in data consumption, forcing Indian telcos to make large investments.
Data consumption per subscriber is expected to grow at a CAGR of 15% from 2023 to 2029, reaching 68 GB per subscriber per month in India.
