With iPhone 16, Apple has made a number of improvements in terms of making the device more repairable. This includes a new method of loosening and removing batteries using low voltage current. And for those involved in iPhone repairs, iFixit has released a tool designed to help remove the iPhone 16’s internal battery.
VoltClip helps users remove iPhone 16 battery
iFixit’s new VoltClip is a USB-powered tool that provides 9-12V power to remove the iPhone 16 battery. The tool includes a USB-C adapter for power input and an alligator clip to connect to your device.
as pointed out by The VergeApple’s official repair documentation states that using up to 30V of power “reduces removal time.” But with VoltClip, iFixit says it wants to “keep things simple and low-cost from the get-go.” Of course, using accessories is definitely more convenient than relying on manual connectors, disposable batteries, etc.
In previous iPhone models, the battery was glued to the device’s case with a stretchable adhesive. However, this not only makes the repair more complicated, but can also take longer to remove. This new method allows you to easily and safely remove your battery in just one minute.
Unfortunately, this new method of removing the battery using low voltage current is only available for iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. Both the Pro and Pro Max models continue to feature batteries with stretch-release adhesive.
If you plan on repairing your iPhone or are working on it, you can now order iFixit’s VoltClip for $10.95. Please note that a USB-C PD power supply (not included in the box) that supports 12V or 9V output is required.
