Apple Intelligence is finally available to iPhone, iPad, and Mac users running iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1. Here’s everything you need to know about Apple AI.
Requirements to try Apple Intelligence
Apple has some limitations for people who want to try Apple Intelligence for the first time.
Device limitations: Apple Intelligence is available only on the following devices:
- iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro or later
- iPad: M1 iPad Air, M1 iPad Pro, iPad mini or later with A17 Pro chip
- Mac: M1 Mac or later
Regional and language restrictions: To try AI for the first time, you’ll need to set your device language and Siri to American English. Starting with iOS 18.1 Beta 3, you don’t have to limit your region to the United States.
Software limitations: Must be running iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, or macOS 15.1.
Finally, Apple Intelligence is currently not available in the EU or China. However, you can try out the platform by changing your region to the United States.
How to join the Apple Intelligence waitlist
After meeting the criteria above, there are some additional steps to start trying out this new feature on your Apple device. You must join the waiting list.
- After downloading iOS 18.1, open the Settings app
- Search Apple Intelligence and Siri
- Tap “Join Waiting List”
You’ll receive a notification when your device is ready to start using Apple Intelligence. After logging in, Apple will download the model to your phone, tablet, or computer.

Apple intelligence features
As of iOS 18, the main Apple Intelligence features available are:
- Writing tools: Users can rewrite, proofread, and summarize text almost anywhere they write, including emails, notes, pages, and third-party apps.
- Improved Siri: The new design allows Siri to maintain context between requests. Even if you stumble over your words or change what you’re saying mid-sentence, Siri can understand what you actually want.
- Priority notification: These appear at the top of the stack, so you can see at a glance what you need to pay attention to. Notifications are summarized for quick review.
- Priority message in email: Move time-sensitive messages, like invitations due today or check-in reminders for a flight this afternoon, to the top of your inbox.
- Record and transcribe your calls in the Notes app. in the Notes app or Phone app.[録音]Capture audio recordings and transcripts with just a click. Apple Intelligence generates transcript summaries so you can see the most important information at a glance.
- Reduce interruptions: In iOS 18.1, an all-new Focus mode understands the content of your notifications and shows you notifications that might need your immediate attention, like a message to pick up your child from daycare later today.
- Memories in photos: Users can create the stories they want to see by simply entering a description. Apple Intelligence selects the best photos and videos based on their descriptions, creates a storyline of chapters based on themes identified from the photos, and arranges them into a movie with its own narrative arc.
- Smart reply in email: Quickly draft email responses with all the right details. Apple Intelligence identifies the questions asked in the email and provides relevant choices to include in your answer.
- summary: Apple has extended summarization functionality to all apps, including third-party apps. Previously, it was only available in Messages and Email.
- Cleanup tools: This photo app feature allows you to identify and remove distracting objects in the background of your photos without accidentally changing the subject.
- Type in Siri: Improved type-to-Siri functionality for Apple Intelligence devices as the Assistant tries to complete your queries.

- Image Playground: Users can choose from animations, illustrations, and sketches to create playful images in seconds. The app is built directly into apps like Messages, and is also available as a dedicated app.
