How to disable 60Hz frame rate limit for Android games

Some games have frame rate limits set, so even if your device can handle 120 fps, you’ll end up with a choppy 60 fps. Android 15 allows you to disable the default frame rate. Here’s how:

Most flagship devices on the market today have 120Hz displays, which means they can relay visual information at a rate of 120 frames per second. This is great for everyday scrolling, but even better for gaming. The difference between 60fps and 120fps is obvious and it makes a big difference.

Many games on the Google Play Store are set to 60fps by default, which looks pretty poor when running on a 120Hz display.

Pixel 9 and 9 Pro Fold have OLED variable refresh rate panels, and Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL have Super Actua LTPO OLED panels. Both displays can easily run higher refresh rates. With the release of Android 15, we added an option to disable the default frame rate for games. As for the Pixel series, it might be worth checking out.

How to disable the default refresh rate

It is worth noting that in Android 15, this new option will be placed in the developer menu, so you will need to enable developer mode. Please note that developer mode is locked for some reason and may cause problems to your device. Please do so at your own risk.

This feature of Android 15 seems to be exclusive to the Pixel series for the time being.

To enable developer mode, setting and tap About the phone It’s at the bottom. scroll to build number Tap five times.

From there, you can find and change the default frame rate override toggle.

  1. in settings app On Pixel with Android 15, visit: system.
  2. Find and tap Developer options.
  3. search Disable the game’s default frame rate Tap toggle.

This disables the game’s 60Hz limit and allows your Pixel to run the game at full speed. Please note that this option can cause instability in some titles and may not always work. If you start experiencing unwanted results during gameplay, you can always go back to Developer Options and turn it off.
