In today’s digitally transformed enterprises, mobile devices have become essential business tools and can support virtually every employee’s daily tasks. But without effective mobile device management (MDM), IT leaders struggle to optimize smartphones and tablets to efficiently fulfill their diverse business roles.

To maximize productivity and ensure security, administrators need more control over how devices operate, the apps they install, and the networks they connect to. Samsung’s Knox Configure lets you take control, manage and optimize your smartphone or tablet.

Granular device configuration allows IT teams to ensure that enterprise-responsible devices, such as the Galaxy Tab S10+ and S10 Ultra, do not leak information or expose the enterprise to security vulnerabilities. Whether you’re deploying dozens or thousands of devices, Knox Configure makes it easy.

What exactly does device configuration mean? Knox Configure allows you to control and customize nearly every aspect of your device without having to unbox it.

Seamless out-of-the-box setup with Knox Configure

Knox Configure goes beyond traditional MDM solutions by giving employees complete control over what features they can and cannot access on corporate responsibility devices. You can configure each device according to the employee’s corporate role and security permissions. You can also provision content and apps, disable other preloaded apps that your employees don’t need, and rebrand devices with custom boot animations.

Knox Configure allows mobility managers to create a gold master image that is automatically applied to all end users’ devices. The Knox Configure portal allows administrators to upload a list of deployed devices and assign predefined profiles to tailor the devices to different business needs. Employee mobile devices are automatically provisioned and configured as soon as they are powered on and connected to the network, rather than going through setup wizards or other complex steps. Additionally, IT administrators don’t have to spend time manually configuring each device. This can also be done after you need to factory reset your device.

Achieve advanced device provisioning

One of the most important settings for a mobile device is how it connects to the world. Connectivity is necessary for employee productivity, but there is little reason to disable this access for standard use. However, if your employees are accessing sensitive information, you may need to restrict connectivity to ensure data security.

Knox Configure also lets you control Wi-Fi, LTE, and 5G connections, and set up access point name (APN) configurations for your mobile network. You can turn off GPS, Bluetooth, Near Field Communication (NFC), or enable Flight Mode. These are especially important controls for professional industry use cases and for employees working with sensitive data.

No matter how you configure your device, Knox Configure prevents your employees from reverting these settings, even if you perform a factory reset. You can maintain greater control over how your data enters and exits your network, and more importantly, who has access to it.

Building on these capabilities, Knox Configure Dynamic edition makes it easy for businesses to keep the devices they are responsible for up to date with the latest configurations.

Create your own mobile appliance

Almost every feature on your mobile device can be customized using Knox Configure to meet your unique business needs. Minimize employee interference with device configuration and eliminate interference with customer-facing devices. For example, you can set up your Galaxy Tab S10+ or S10 Ultra device as a self-service kiosk to provide directions to hotel guests or check in visitors when they arrive at your office. By modifying the standard UX and locking down the device to a single app, you can further customize the UX and turn your mobile device into a bespoke business tool.

It can also limit potential security vulnerabilities by preventing tampering with certain features. If a configured device is lost or stolen, you can prevent data leaks by remotely resetting the device and preventing files from being copied to the SD card or USB storage.

For devices used in highly sensitive areas, you can use Knox Configure to disable the microphone, camera, or screen capture and limit recording capabilities. You can also restrict communication by locking access to SMS and MMS messages.

Brand your configured devices

Employee experience makes a huge difference in improving business performance. Add a personal touch to mobile devices with Knox Configure to create a fully company-branded experience from the moment your employees turn on their devices.

You can further customize your device by pre-installing specific business apps over the air or adding shortcuts, such as an icon that takes you directly to your company homepage. For customer-facing devices, shortcuts to customer support can help ensure a smooth transaction.

Provide flexibility for multiple users

MDM becomes even more important for businesses that manage shared devices. When multiple people use corporate smartphones and tablets, IT departments typically face many device configuration issues. But with Knox Shared Device, IT departments can give multiple users access to the same device without sharing data. Individual settings, accounts, apps, and policies apply exclusively to a single user account. Data is not passed between accounts and is cleared when the user logs out. Each user logs into the device with a separate account (using Active Directory credentials) and manages only their own files and apps.

Knox Configure for any industry

Mobile devices are ubiquitous and increasingly diverse, but that doesn’t mean they’re difficult to manage. Knox Configure provides dynamic capabilities to meet your unique business needs, whether combined with a mobile device management solution or not. With Knox Configure, you get the benefits of a standardized, consistent, and secure mobile device, with plenty of room for innovation.

Expand your management capabilities by combining your MDM solution with Knox Configure. Find out why your business should Deploy an MDM solution. One such solution is knox managementallows IT teams to manage devices from an intuitive cloud-based console.
