TL;DR
- The stable Android 15 update does not have the battery charge limit feature seen in the beta earlier this year.
- This is because this feature was applied to Android 15 QPR1 beta rather than the initial release of Android 15.
- Therefore, this charging feature is expected to be available in the coming months.
In July, we discovered a battery charging limit feature in the Android 15 beta that allows you to stop charging your phone when it reaches 80% capacity. Now, the stable Android 15 software has been released, but this feature is not here. What happened?
Now, as Redditor JMPesce points out on the GooglePixel subreddit, this charging feature arrived in the Android 15 QPR1 beta, not the standard Android 15 beta. Android permissions Contributor Mishal Rahman also argued for this possibility. Back in July.
QPR updates are typically minor updates that follow the initial stable Android release. For example, Android 14 was released in October 2023, Android 14 QPR 1 was released in December 2023, and Android 14 QPR2 was released in March 2024.
In other words, the battery charging limit feature is likely to be implemented in December, when Android 15 QPR1 is scheduled to be released. Therefore, you will have to wait at least a few months.

This feature is a useful solution for people who are concerned about their phone’s battery health. All mobile phone batteries require a certain number of charging cycles to effectively reach 80% of their initial capacity, resulting in a significantly reduced lifespan after a few years. However, charging to 80% reduces the number of charging cycles your phone battery takes, which in turn slows down the rate at which your phone battery degrades.
This charge throttling feature is especially important for Pixel smartphones, as Google provides seven years of OS and security patches. Many cell phone batteries tend to degrade significantly after two to three years of use, so slowing this degradation could potentially save you an extra year or two before replacing your battery.
