Amazon’s latest Prime Day sale has come and gone this week, but the promotion doesn’t end there. Today, I’d like to focus on something that didn’t get a lot of exposure during Prime Day: Apple’s computers and tablets.
Start with tablets because they are more affordable. The standard 2022 Apple iPad has a 10.9-inch IPS LCD (with a refresh rate of just 60Hz) and an A14 chipset. It charges via USB-C, so you can use the same cable as your current iPhone. Stylus is also supported (first generation Pencil).
The new Air model is more powerful and uses the same Apple M2 chip as the previous Pro. The iPad Air 11 is also equipped with an IPS liquid crystal display of approximately the same size, and is also particular about 60Hz. Airs has USB-C with video output and Stage Manager support for multitasking, and while it’s not as great as macOS, it’s still pretty usable.
This generation also features the larger 13-inch iPad Air. It’s essentially the same tablet, except for a larger battery (36.59Wh vs. 28.93Wh).
The same Apple M2 power will also be available on MacBook Air with 13.6-inch laptops starting in 2022. It’s more expensive, but as mentioned above, macOS is great at multitasking and can run iOS and iPadOS apps. Additionally, you can purchase a keyboard separately from your iPad.
For an extra £100, you can upgrade to M3 power on your 2024 MacBook Air (also a 13.6in laptop). These new models support up to two external displays (with the lid closed), while the M2 model can only actually handle one (although there are ways around this limitation).
The 2024 MacBook Air with the M3 chip also comes in a larger 15.3-inch version. The display reaches 500 nits of brightness and features True Tone technology and a notch for the 1080p FaceTime HD camera.
That’s it for Apple’s offer. Lastly, here are some great deals on Amazon tablets. The Amazon Fire Max 11-inch tablet is currently 48% off (with ads) and features a large IPS LCD and stereo speakers, making it a great browsing and streaming device. It can handle video calls, office work, and even light gaming.
The Amazon Fire HD 10 has a 10.1-inch LCD and stereo speakers, so it’s also a great entertainment option and costs less than £100. Like the Max, it is equipped with an octa-core CPU (2.0GHz) and is also capable of light games.
Finally, the Amazon Fire 7 is cheap to begin with, but after a 54% discount, it’s incredibly cheap. The 16GB model costs just £30. You can get 32GB of internal storage for an extra £10, but I’d rather spend that money on a microSD card. The 128GB Amazon Basics card currently costs £10.63, but you can get the SanDisk Extreme for a little more.
