The government has issued a warning to Android smartphone users. If you are an Android user, your phone may be at risk of being hacked. Government agency CERT-In has issued a warning about various vulnerabilities found in Android devices. These vulnerabilities could allow unauthorized access to a user’s smartphone. CERT-In classifies this as a “High Severity Alert,” indicating that Android users are currently at high risk.
Phones at risk:
According to the government agency, smartphones running Android 12, Android 12L, Android 13, and Android 14 operating systems are at risk of being hacked. This means that all Android smartphones released in the past three years are currently vulnerable. Approximately 70% of smartphones used in India are now equipped with these new operating systems. Therefore, users should be careful.

Defects identified:
The agency’s investigation found that using Google Play system updates, ARM components, Imagination Technologies components, Unisoc components, Qualcomm components, and Qualcomm closed-source components in the Android 12, Android 12L, Android 13, and Android 14 operating system frameworks. Your smartphone is at higher risk of being hacked. Various vulnerabilities have been identified in these components that could be exploited by hackers. Most mobile phones on the market today are equipped with these chipsets.
Meanwhile, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced the extension of the free Aadhaar update scheme till December 14, 2024. Originally scheduled to end on September 14, the extension will allow users to upload documents and make changes to their profiles on the myAadhaar portal. There will be no charges for an additional 3 months.
“UIDAI extends the free online document upload facility till December 14, 2024,” UIDAI announced on social media platform X.
