Google’s “Press and Hold to Cast” feature now available on Pixel Pro and tablets

Google has launched its latest additions to Pixel Pro and Pixel Tablet. With the availability of October’s Pixel (Feature) Drop, users will be able to “stay close to cast” and tap to cast between two devices.

The Hold Close to Cast feature takes advantage of UWB (Ultra Wide Band) and other wireless technologies available on pro-level Pixel devices. This will allow users to create multi-device streaming connections using Pixel Pro and Pixel Tablet. For example, you can use two-way streaming to transfer songs from your Pixel Pro to your Pixel Tablet and vice versa. The same goes for YouTube Music and Spotify.

Press and hold to cast is available on Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Users also need a docked Pixel Tablet. Additionally, Google informs us that both devices “must be on the same private Wi-Fi network to cast.”

To set up and use this feature, you need to go to the “Settings” app and select “Google.” Next, users need to go to “All Services” and “Casting Options for Pixel.” Once you’re close to your Pixel Tablet, just hold your Pixel Pro close to your device and let UWB do its magic.

Google Play Services update version 24.42.32 is now live. However, it may not be widely available to all users yet.
