TL;DR

  • Gemini 2.0 could be launched as early as December of this year.
  • This groundbreaking release comes roughly a year after Gemini 1.0.

Google has been focused on AI all year long, and it feels like it won’t be a few weeks before we hear about Gemini’s latest efforts, whether it’s Nano, Live, or one of its many extensions. Now, a new report attempts to predict when the next generation of Gemini will be ready to debut.

Earlier today, we checked out a report from The Verge OpenAI claims to be preparing to introduce its next big model in December. Apparently this could be a very busy month for the industry, with the site claiming that Google could be preparing Gemini 2.0 as early as December (via 9to5Google).

The timing of such a move certainly makes plenty of sense. In the end, Google officially introduced Gemini 1.0 in the first week of December 2023. After that, it didn’t take long to move to Gemini 1.5. Access to Gemini 1.5 began in February and has already demonstrated some significant progress in compared benchmarks. Until the first release.

We still don’t have many details about what specifically to expect from Gemini 2.0, other than anticipating the kind of generational forward pressure seen across other large language models. yeah. However, one thing we’re hearing is that Google may actually want to get Gemini 2.0 out as soon as possible and in front of as many people as possible.

The way Google has operated in the past, access to Gemini has been highly staggered in terms of who has access to what level of performance and when. There are still multiple layers to be expected, but Google may soon move toward integrating Gemini 2.0 across its products.
