Google has indeed said that Android 15 will be rolling out to Pixel smartphones starting today.
About a month ago, we reported on various rumors suggesting that Android 15 would finally roll out to Pixel devices on October 15th. Now, by coincidence, Google itself has confirmed the news.
Google recently posted a post on the German Pixel community forum confirming the rollout, then quickly halted the rollout. However, they also sent an email to members of the forum, and the content was shared on Reddit.
“This month, all supported Google Pixel devices running Android 14 will receive a software update to Android 15,” the translated email reads. “The update is already available to some users today.”
The email further explains that Android 15 will be gradually rolled out to more users over the next week as individual carriers deem it appropriate. Expect to receive a notification when it’s ready. or,[設定]You can also check it manually in the menu.
As Android Headlines points out, Google’s history with these announcements and OS releases suggests that the button will be pressed around 10 a.m. Pacific Time, or 6 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time.
It’s likely to roll out to Pixel smartphones at the same time as October’s Pixel Feature Drop, so even those in the beta program may have new features they haven’t seen yet.
In an unusual move, Google chose to release the Pixel 9 series in August, two months earlier than usual. As a result, the newly expanded four-strong lineup ships with Android 14 and was originally launched alongside Pixel 8 in 2023.
Android 15 itself doesn’t seem to be much different from Android 14, which had a similar UI. It adds new camera enhancements, partial screen sharing, and a new private space that lets you safely isolate sensitive apps from other apps.
Satellite connectivity is enhanced and expanded, Bluetooth connectivity is made more accessible, and additional steps are added to block malicious apps. These are just some of the features rolling out to Pixel devices later today.
