TL;DR

  • Google is working on a new Ask a Question feature for the Google Play Store.
  • Upcoming AI-powered features could allow users to ask questions on an app’s listing page and have them answered using AI.
  • This feature could complement the AI-generated FAQs that currently exist in the Play Store.

Google Play Store is the main destination for downloading and installing apps and games on Android flagships. While many of us are experts at finding the right app for our needs, many users need help finding the right app. Their app discovery process is completely different, and these users have questions about how apps work, but often can’t find the answers in the app list. Google is working on improving this experience, potentially using AI to generate answers to users’ questions about the list of apps.

Ask a question

This makes Ask a Question our second AI-powered feature, as we discovered AI-generated FAQs on the Play Store earlier this year. These FAQs are pre-generated by the Play Store using AI, so they address common questions, but give you room to further tailor the answers based on your personal questions. The upcoming “Ask a Question” feature could be a step in that direction, as it will likely allow users to ask questions about the list of apps and games they are currently viewing.

Other clues within the app suggest that this AI feature may appear on individual app listing pages and search results. Users may see a button or text that says “Ask a Question,” with an input field to enter a question and receive an AI-generated answer.

This AI-generated questions and answers feature is not currently available in the Google Play Store. Google hasn’t disclosed anything about this feature, so we don’t know if or when it will be available to users. However, we’re excited to see this feature come to fruition, as it aligns well with good practical use cases for AI and will help both users and app developers.
