TL;DR

  • Google may soon bring Meet’s AI-generated background features to Android users.
  • Gemini-powered features allow you to create custom backgrounds for your video calls.
  • This feature is currently limited to the web version of Google Meet and requires the Gemini for Google Workspace add-on or Google One AI Premium subscription.

Google Meet has a nifty feature powered by Gemini that allows users to generate custom backgrounds for video calls. This feature is currently limited to the web version, but may soon come to Google Meet on Android.

Google debuted AI-generated background features in 2023 as part of its Workspace Labs program. Since then, the company has extended this feature to all users with the Gemini for Google Workspace add-on or Google One AI Premium subscription, but the feature only works on the web version of Google Meet. That may change soon, as we’ve discovered a feature in development in the latest release of Gmail for Android (v2024.10.06.682972205).

As you can see from the attached screenshot, this feature:[効果]on the menu[背景の生成]It will appear as a new button labeled . Currently, tapping this button opens a blank page. However, it’s safe to assume that this page, like the web version, will include a text box for prompts, a style selection menu, and a button to generate a custom background.

In the web version of Google Meet, this feature generates some samples based on your prompts. If you don’t like the first sample, you can create more or even edit the prompt to generate a different background. We expect the Android version to offer similar functionality, but we’ll have to wait until the final rollout to know for sure.
