Google has finally resolved a long-standing issue with how third-party password managers work within Chrome for Android.
In an update expected next month, Google will enable native autofill for third-party password manager apps like Dashlane and 1Password in the Chrome app on Android.
The update, announced in a post on Google’s Android Developers Blog by developer advocate Eiji Kitamura, promises to alleviate some issues with the way these password managers currently work in apps. is expected.
In his post, Kitamura detailed current issues, including “duplicate suggestions from Google and third parties” and “page scrolling becomes unstable” when using third-party password managers. I’m doing it. This is because the password manager must use “compatibility mode” when interacting with Chrome, even if it’s set as the system default in your Android phone’s settings. As The Verge points out, this introduces a glitch that doesn’t exist in Safari or Chrome for iOS.
An upcoming update will allow third-party password managers to natively autofill passwords and passkeys, as well as other details such as addresses and payment information.
How to test updates yourself
