  • GitHub’s new tool, Spark, allows users to create “micro-apps” of any complexity using plain English.

  • Leverage any web API, add AI models, and let users choose their preferred language model.

  • Spark also encourages collaboration by allowing code to be shared and modified, but in some cases users may need to tweak the code.

Spark makes it possible for non-technical users to build apps

What’s the story?

GitHub announced a new experimentation tool, Spark, at the annual GitHub Universe conference. An innovative platform that allows you to create small web apps using natural language.

This project is part of the GitHub Next Lab, which promises a chat-like experience in app development.

Starting from the first prompt, Spark will generate a live preview in seconds, allowing you to interact with the bot and improve your app.

Tools for personal software creation

GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke sees Spark as a big step in personal software creation.

He explained that these “microapps” are not meant to replace professional developers, but rather tools for exploring ideas and building small bots and helpers.

Despite being touted as a tool for “microapps,” there is no limit to the complexity of apps you can build with Spark, a GitHub spokesperson said. tech crunch.

Features and user customization

Spark allows you to add AI models using any web API. Dohmke said he is looking forward to seeing how users use the tool.

“It’s really exciting to see what users can do and how big applications they can build using just the power of natural language,” he said.

Similar to GitHub Copilot, Spark allows users to choose their preferred large-scale language model from the latest versions of Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet and OpenAI’s GPT models.

Just type the command and get the result

Spark lets you share and modify code

Spark allows users to share Spark with customized access controls, allowing others to build on shared code.

But Domke acknowledged that AI isn’t perfect, and developers may need to tweak their code at times.

He said, “Of course you can look at the code base. If you understand the code base, you can look directly at the code and change it.”
