When NFL quarterbacks make mistakes, team-issued Microsoft Surface tablets often bear the brunt of the frustration on the sideline.
Such was the case Thursday night when Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith threw a costly INT in the fourth quarter of Seattle’s 36-24 loss to the 49ers.
Smith and the Seahawks were trailing by six points deep in their own half with less than 10 minutes left and were looking for a comeback.

Smith tried to force a pass over the middle to DK Metcalf, but the pass was deflected by 49ers cornerback Renaldo Green, giving San Francisco prime field possession and tying the game.
When Smith watched footage of the interception on the sideline, he fumed on his tablet.

Smith led the Seahawks by six points with less than 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter, leading the Seahawks to a six-point lead over their NFC West rival 49ers.
Seattle was pinned to its own 3-yard line after a deep punt by San Francisco’s Mitch Wishnowski, but Smith completed three passes to give the offense some space. An offensive holding penalty forced the Seahawks back to their own 15-yard line, and Smith looked to make something happen.
He threaded a pass over the middle to Metcalf, but the pass was well underthrown and into the hands of 49ers corner Renaldo Green. Green returned the ball to Seattle’s 15-yard line, and the 49ers scored an easy touchdown to tie the game.

When Smith returned to the sideline to review the tape on his Microsoft Surface tablet, he was stunned by his own decision.
Not only did the Seahawks’ starting quarterback break his tablet, he slammed it against his head multiple times.

Surprisingly, Smith did not harm himself with his rash decision. He was able to finish the game, but his outburst was emblematic of the type of night the Seahawks had. DK Metcalf also got angry and frustrated several times during the game, at one point yelling into a phone on the sideline, possibly at OC Ryan Grubb.
Geno Smith stats vs. 49ers
Smith completed 30 of 52 pass attempts for 312 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, but it wasn’t enough to beat San Francisco.
The Seahawks lost 36-24, making it their third straight loss after a 3-0 start.
