Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will make you regret buying the Fold 6

Important points

  • Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition offers a slim design with a larger display and a great 200MP camera.
  • The Special Edition is lighter and thinner than the Fold 6 while maintaining the same internal specs and charging speed.
  • Unfortunately, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will only be sold in South Korea.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 arrives in late July this year and is packed with modest upgrades. The Korean company’s latest flagship foldable product proved to be disappointing as it offered the same experience as its predecessor despite competitors offering much better hardware . After publicly apologizing for its lack of innovation, Samsung is making up for it with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, a slimmer, lighter and better version of the regular Fold 6.

More than just improved specs?

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, announced today in South Korea, stands out for its sleek design. It looks identical to the Fold 6, but it has the largest display ever on a foldable device from Samsung, with a 6.5-inch 21:9 cover display and an 8-inch 20:18 inner folding screen. Masu.

The new aspect ratio of the outer screen is similar to most modern smartphones, so using the Z Fold Special Edition won’t feel as cramped as it does on the regular Fold 6.

Samsung’s special foldable device is lighter and thinner than its flagship foldable device. It’s 3g lighter and just 4.9mm thick when unfolded and 10.6mm when folded. For comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 5.6mm thick when unfolded and 12.1mm when folded. Another small design change that Samsung highlights is the striping on the back.

Another major upgrade to the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is the camera. The Fold 6’s 50MP primary camera is aging, and Samsung is using it starting with the 2022 Galaxy Z Fold 4. Taking cues from the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the company’s special edition foldable camera uses a 200MP primary camera. This is paired with a 10MP shooter with 12MP ultrawide and 3x optical zoom. The 4MP under-display camera and 10MP cover-screen selfie shooter remain unchanged.

Internal specifications are the same as Galaxy Z Fold 6

Inside the Z Fold Special Edition is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the Galaxy chip, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. The device is powered by a 4,400mAh cell, which is the same as the Fold 6 and Samsung’s previous foldable devices. The charging speed remains the same at 25W.

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition launches with Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1 out of the box, with Samsung promising seven years of OS updates and security patches.

Now, here’s the disappointing part. The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will be available in Korea only from October 25th for approximately $2,000 (2,789,600 won). It will be available through all major carriers in the country, including Samsung’s online store.

It looks like the foldable product will be available in China under a different name, but that’s about it. Samsung has no plans to launch this excellent Galaxy Z Fold 6 edition in other international markets.
