Samsung officially announced the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition on October 21st. Although it doesn’t have the number 6 in its name, this is a special edition based on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and includes some expected and welcome hardware upgrades.
Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has a bigger and wider screen and more RAM and storage (16B+512GB) by default. The camera setup has also been improved, with the Fold 6’s 50MP main camera replaced by a 200MP camera like the one found on Samsung’s Galaxy S Ultra smartphones.

But what about the rest of the camera settings? Did anything else change? No, not really. The Z Fold Special Edition uses the same ultrawide, zoom, cover display/front, and under-display cameras as the Fold 6.
It has a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, 10MP 3x optical telephoto, 10MP cover display camera, and 4MP under-display camera. It’s a setup that will disappoint some fans, especially those who were frustrated by the Fold lineup’s limited zoom capabilities compared to Samsung’s Galaxy S Ultra smartphones.
Samsung boasts that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has a 200MP camera despite being thinner than the Fold 6, but not everyone shares the company’s enthusiasm. The latter’s 50MP primary camera is more than adequate for all situations and lighting conditions. Samsung essentially upgraded the camera it didn’t need.
On the bright side, this is good from a financial perspective. The special edition costs the equivalent of $2,040 in Korea, and would have been even more expensive with more camera upgrades. Even $2,040 is a hefty price tag, which may be part of the reason Samsung is making this device exclusive to China and its home country.
