Samsung has downgraded the Galaxy A52s to quarterly security updates three years after it hit retail stores. All Galaxy A52 models received monthly security updates in addition to major One UI and Android updates for the first three years of their release.
The Galaxy A52 and A52 5G stopped receiving monthly security updates earlier this year, and Samsung is now downgrading the A52 as well. Starting this month, new updates for the A52 will be released approximately every 12 weeks.
Samsung has promised to provide at least four years of security updates for most Galaxy smartphones launched after 2019, so the A52 will get these updates until at least October 2025 . Due to the popularity of the Galaxy A52 lineup, Samsung may extend support to a fifth year, but we’ll obviously have to wait to find out if that actually happens.
Downgrades to the quarterly security update schedule for A52s will occur 5 months after receiving the last One UI update. The phone will remain on Android 14 and One UI 6.1, so you may want to consider upgrading to a new device.
The Galaxy A55 is a great upgrade that won’t disappoint. This is the first phone in Samsung’s Galaxy A5x lineup to match and exceed the performance of the Galaxy A52s. There are multiple other benefits, including support for four major Android OS updates.
If you want more than four major Android updates, you’ll have to wait until next year. Samsung’s latest entry-level A-series phone, the Galaxy A16 5G, will be eligible for six years of updates, as will the upcoming Galaxy A56 and other A-series devices.
