Just a few hours ago, the Galaxy A16 5G was listed on Samsung Netherlands’ website, making the entry-level/lower midrange A-series phone official after weeks of leaks and rumors. Initially, Samsung did not disclose the price of the phone, but has now corrected that.
The suggested retail price for the Galaxy A16 5G is 229 euros. The suggested retail price for the A15 5G was around 190-200 euros, so the A16 5G is quite affordable for the features it offers.
The biggest highlight is the Galaxy A16 5G’s eligibility for 6 years of software updates. This is the first non-flagship Galaxy smartphone to receive updates in over five years. A15 5G is eligible for four major OS upgrades and five years of security updates, and six years of support for new models includes both major OS upgrades and security updates.
Galaxy A16 5G also offers improved protection against the elements. Its design is IP54 certified, providing some degree of dust resistance, and works well against water splashes (but not continuous water flow). It’s not as good as the IP67 certification available on more expensive A-series devices, but it’s better than no official water and dust protection.
Galaxy A16 5G features a 6.7-inch 90Hz Full HD+ Super AMOLED display, 4GB RAM, Exynos 1330 processor with 128GB storage and 1.5TB microSD card support, 5,000 mAh battery with 25W fast charging, 5G connectivity, 50MP. +5MP+2MP (primary, ultrawide, macro) rear camera setup, and 13MP front camera. It will run Android 14 out of the box and likely have One UI 6.1.
As of October 7th, there’s no option to actually buy a phone from Samsung, but that should change by the end of the month. Prices for other markets should also be revealed within the next few days.
