iPad mini 7

Apple on Tuesday announced a new iPad mini equipped with the A17 Pro chip that supports Apple Intelligence features. The first orders of the new iPad mini are expected to reach customers next week, and early benchmarks have been published on Geekbench. These results confirm that the latest iPad mini is equipped with 8GB of RAM and provide a glimpse into the performance of the binned A17 Pro chip inside.

The fact that the new iPad mini has 8GB of RAM is not surprising. The device features support for Apple Intelligence, and Apple has previously indicated that 8GB of RAM is the baseline for that support. This is a notable upgrade from the previous generation iPad mini 6, which had 4GB of RAM.

The new iPad mini is powered by the A17 Pro chip, the same chip that powers the iPhone 15 Pro. However, the difference is that the iPad mini’s A17 Pro chip has a 5-core GPU, while the iPhone 15 Pro’s version of the chip has a 6-core GPU.

These Geekbench results were first discovered my smart priceLet’s take a first look at how this difference affects performance.

The iPad mini with A17 Pro scores around 2800 in the single-core GeekBench test and around 6500 in the multi-core test. For comparison, the previous iPad mini with the A15 Bionic scored around 2100 in the single-core test and around 5400 in the multi-core test.

For further comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro typically scores around 2,900 in single-core tests and 7,200 in multi-core tests.

Here’s how the three devices compare in terms of GPU benchmarks:

  • iPad mini 7: 25,600
  • iPad mini 6: 20,200
  • iPhone 15 Pro: 20,700

The new iPad mini (A17 Pro) is available to order now, with the first pre-orders scheduled to arrive next Wednesday, October 23rd.
