There are three important aspects that I consider when evaluating wireless car chargers that meet my needs.
- Ease of Installation: This charger offers two mounting options, making it easy to install, which ranks it highly in this category.
- Performs as advertised: A charger must deliver on its promised output, and this charger does just that. The CryoBoost feature means the charging head stays cool even under heavy loads or in hot weather.
- Reliability: Many wireless chargers fall short in this regard, overheating and failing after long periods of use. However, after logging hundreds of miles using this charger, I have had no issues with this unit. This is proof of its reliability.

The Qi2 wireless charging standard enables full 15W charging speeds from non-Apple MagSafe chargers, giving you the convenience of magnetic charging without the frustration of slow speeds. The ESR Qi2 15W MagSafe Car Charger with CryoBoost features a Qi2 certified charging head with a strong magnetic ring that securely holds your iPhone in place no matter the road conditions.
But what is CryoBoost? It’s a cooling fan built into the charger’s head that blows cool air not only over the charger, but also on the back of your iPhone.

Is it helpful? That’s certainly true! I’ve had this running for a few weeks, and even did some unfair testing by blowing heat directly into the charger through the vents, and the cooling fan seems to be working fine.
This charger has two mounting options. One is a very effective vent clamp and the other is an adhesive mount that attaches to the dashboard using high quality 3M VHB adhesive.
We tested both mounting methods and found them to be solid and reliable, even on bumpy roads. However, if you don’t like vent mounts and don’t want to permanently attach the mount, I modified mine to use a suction cup mount. This worked.
ZDNET purchase advice
of ESR Qi2 15W MagSafe Car Charger (with CryoBoost) It’s a near perfect wireless car charger. The charger itself is sturdy and well-made, with Qi2 delivering the promised 15W of power, CryoBoost to keep the charger and iPhone running cool, and magnets to keep your iPhone firmly in place no matter the road conditions. There are two installation options: vent or adhesive, making it very flexible. The only downside is that for $59, you’ll need to supply your own 12V to USB-C car charger. Get it for less than $10. Other than that, this is the perfect iPhone car accessory for me.
