In a move that could spell the end of an era for legacy technology, apple company AAPL Reportedly discontinued production of 16-year-old product super drive.
what happened: The SuperDrive external CD/DVD drive is currently listed as sold out or unavailable in all countries on Apple’s online store, MacRumors reported.
This accessory was released in parallel with the original in 2008. MacBook Airhas not been restocked, indicating that it has been discontinued.

The SuperDrive has been one of Apple’s longest-selling products, despite its outdated USB-A cable. But as the CD/DVD drive market becomes increasingly niche, Apple’s decision to discontinue the SuperDrive is not unexpected.
For customers who need a CD/DVD drive, there are other alternatives that don’t require a USB-C adapter that can be used with modern Macs.
The term SuperDrive was first coined by Apple in 1988 when it introduced a 1.44 MB 3.5-inch floppy drive.
This concept evolved significantly with the introduction of optical media in 2001, and by the mid-2000s, SuperDrive was available as an option on nearly all Mac models.
Apple did not immediately respond to Benzinga’s request for comment.
