Early 2025, maybe sooner than expected?

I’ve been looking forward to the iPhone SE 4 ever since I realized how great this device is, especially compared to the previous generation. Apple is ditching the home button for good, giving its cheapest iPhone the all-screen design it deserves. Face ID is also coming to the new iPhone SE for the first time.

Specs are even more important. The iPhone SE 4 is expected to be equipped with the A18 chip found in Apple’s entry-level iPhone 16 models. The chip comes with 8GB of RAM and will enable the phone to run Apple Intelligence features at launch.

iPhone SE 4 pricing will be even more exciting. Priced between $499 and $599, it has the potential to be a blockbuster. And if Ming-Chi Kuo’s latest report is accurate, we won’t have to wait long for it to be released.

Known for his connections within Apple’s extensive supply chain, Kuo regularly reveals details about unreleased Apple products. His latest report on Medium focuses on Apple’s cut in iPhone 16 orders.

Apple has reportedly cut iPhone 16 orders by about 10 million units over the next three quarters. This corresponds to the current three months to December and the first two quarters of 2025. Apple is expected to produce 84 million iPhone 16s in the second half of 2024, 4 million fewer than originally expected.

As a result of these reductions, total iPhone production is expected to be approximately 80 million units, 45 million units, and 39 million units in the fourth quarter of 2024, the first quarter of 2025, and the second quarter of 2025, respectively. All of these are down compared to the same period last year (approximately 84 million units, 48 million units, and 41 million units in the fourth quarter of 2023, the first quarter of 2024, and the second quarter of 2024).

In this regard, Kuo said that Apple will begin mass production of iPhone SE 4 in December 2024. Apple is thought to want to produce about 8.6 million units between December 2025 and March next year.

This schedule shows that Apple will launch the iPhone SE 4 in early 2025. Previous reports also said that Apple could launch the iPhone SE 4 early next year, suggesting it could arrive in early 2025 rather than early spring.

bloomberg’s Mark Garman said earlier this week that Apple will begin producing the M4 MacBook Air in December. He also noted that Apple plans to launch new Air models in the first quarter of 2025, along with the iPhone SE 4, updated iPad Air, and iPad 11.

Returning to Mr. Kuo’s report, there is also the following quote to consider:

Apple’s iPhone revenue in Q4 2024 is expected to be higher due to a larger gap between production and sell-through in Q4 2023 than in Q4 2024, and a lower product mix in Q4 2024 (due to increased production of Pro Max models). ), so it may not fully reflect the impact of production cuts. (from September to October). However, iPhone sales are expected to come under pressure in the first half of 2025 due to lower year-on-year shipments and a deterioration in product mix with the launch of SE4.

The good news for buyers is that a “less desirable product mix” is impacting revenue after the iPhone SE 4 launch. That will only happen if the iPhone SE 4 comes at a hefty price. This price will influence the average selling price of the iPhone as it will persuade some consumers to choose the iPhone SE 4 over the more expensive iPhones that Apple still sells.

However, Kuo did not reveal details about the iPhone SE 4’s release date or price. I’m back to waiting for other leaks to decrease.
