It’s a bit rare to find an e-reader that’s as comfortable to hold as a smartphone, but Boox has been making just that for years. To that end, the company parma 2the latest version of the smartphone-sized e-reader with improved performance, upgraded software, and all the features that made the original Palma an interesting device.
The Palma 2’s biggest draw is its 6.13-inch Carta 1200 E-Ink display, which is slightly larger than the iPhone 16. Kindle Other e-readers have 7-inch screens and square aspect ratios, making Palma 2 one of the easiest e-readers to hold.
The 1648×824 resolution gives you 300 PPI (pixels per inch), so everything looks sharp. It also includes a light sensor to automatically adjust the backlight and color temperature. You can also choose from four different update speeds depending on the type of content you’re consuming, such as slow-moving e-books or HD video.
According to Boox, the Palma 2 has an upgraded octa-core processor compared to the original model, which contributes to faster performance, and runs Android 13 instead of Android 11. This is another attractive feature of this device. The fact that you can install any Android app makes this one of the most versatile e-readers on the market. Although not the latest, Android 15at least a step forward.
The processor is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which is the same as the previous Palma. There’s a 16MP camera on the back, which Boox says is good for digitizing documents. It also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and dual stereo speakers. For the first time, Palma 2 includes a fingerprint reader in the power button for improved security.
The 3,950mAh battery lasts for a while on a single charge, but Boox hasn’t said exactly how long it will last. Palma 2 is also splash-proof and weighs just 170 grams.
Just to be clear, you technically can’t use this as a phone. Palma 2 is the first e-book reader to run Android and is shaped like a smartphone. Therefore, there is no 5G or SIM card slot. It might be great for the Palma 2 to completely replace your smartphone, but you’ll lose out on battery life and the benefits of “disconnecting” when reading a book.
Boox Palma 2 is Available for pre-order now. Priced at $279.99, it’s more expensive than Amazon’s newest product Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle color softwareThis is the first Kindle ever to feature a color E-Ink display. Palma 2 is available in black or white and with a variety of protective covers. Boox plans to ship Palma 2 starting November 12th.
