Boox today announced Palma 2, a new generation of mobile phone-sized e-readers.
The Boox Palma 2 has the same 6.13-inch Carta 1200 display (824 x 1648, 300 PPI) with a “light sensor” to adjust brightness and color temperature, and also allows manual control. There are different refresh modes: HD (for reading), Balanced (skimming), Fast (scrolling/browsing the web), and Super Fast (video).
It has 128GB of storage (with a microSD card slot) and 6GB of RAM, while an “upgraded octa-core CPU” is touted. With Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0, and dual speakers (front and bottom), more and more people are using Palma as an audio player. It also has dual microphones on the top and bottom.

On the other hand, it runs Android 13, comes with a “pre-installed Google Play Store” to access your usual apps, and has a fingerprint sensor in the power button for enhanced authentication. The rocker below serves three purposes: page turning, scrolling, and volume. On the other side is a customizable “smart button” that accepts short presses, long presses, and double clicks.
Other specs are the same: 16MP rear camera (with flash) for document scanning, 3,950mAh battery, 8mm thickness, and 170-g weight. Even if you accidentally spill or splash a drink on it, it will remain water repellent.
The Boox Palma 2 is available for pre-order for $279.99 in black or white with a textured back. Various cases are offered. Currently sold out on shop.boox.com in the US.
