The latest Find My Device app update adds long-awaited biometric login functionality to your device tracking system.
If you’re running version 3.1.173-1 of the Find My Device app and have the “Require Sign In” feature enabled after an earlier build is suggested to include your password, PIN , or one registered on the device. Sign in to your Google Account using biometrics. Android Authority first spotted this change, but it has now been confirmed after updating via the Google Play Store.
When you log in for the first time, after you enter your account password, you can use the “Don’t ask me again” checkbox. However, this means that if your phone or tablet is unlocked, anyone can open the Find My Device app and track or view your device.
If your phone or tablet doesn’t support biometric login, the Find My Device app will automatically ask for your Google Account password instead. As mentioned earlier, after the Find My Device app is updated from the Google Play Store, this feature will not be visible by default.
To enable biometric login in the Find My Device app, you must tap your account’s profile icon and tap Require Sign In. A new pop-up will appear with the confirmation “Next time you will be required to sign in.”
When you close and reopen the Find My Device app on your phone or tablet, you’ll see a new pop-up asking you to scan your biometrics, such as your fingerprint or facial recognition. It’s a welcome change for an app designed to help you track lost items, and it feels like a smart, security-conscious design choice.
