Regular leaker Sonny Dixon posted photos of two cases allegedly for the fourth-generation iPhone SE, which could be announced in early 2025.
Current iPhone SE cases for the 2022 3rd generation model have a cutout on the back for a single camera lens and flash, and that cutout is repeated in these purported new cases.
Similarly, the mute switch cutout is a staple of current cases, and leaked images suggest Apple has no plans to change that.
The raised area on the side that controls volume up/down and power is also proportionally similar to the previous model’s location. However, that doesn’t mean your old iPhone SE case will fit the upcoming new model.
New size, new style, new case
The reason for this is that the next iPhone SE is said to be based on the iPhone 14 casing, making it considerably larger than the previous model. Rumors suggest that it will feature a 6.1-inch OLED screen, compared to the current model’s 5.45-inch display and LED-backlit panel.
The back camera cutout in Dixon’s leaked photo is the same as the 2022 iPhone SE, but it is expected to have a 48-megapixel camera. It could be similar to the iPhone 15, with a 12MP selfie camera on the front dynamic island. Both are important upgrades.
The next iPhone SE is expected to ditch Touch ID in favor of Face ID, and replace Lightning with a USB-C connector. Considering the move to Face ID, the iPhone SE 4th generation will go even further, adding at least some, if not all, Dynamic Island features.
However, there are also reports that the next iPhone SE will support Apple Intelligence, and it is speculated that it will be equipped with an A18 chip and 8GB of RAM.
It’s still unclear when exactly the new iPhone SE will arrive. Conventional wisdom and the iPhone SE’s track record suggest a spring 2025 release date.
If all or most of these reports turn out to be true, Apple may remove the iPhone 14 from sale when the 4th generation iPhone SE arrives, as the two models are very similar. It is unclear whether the iPhone 14 Plus, which is still available, will also be discontinued.
