Apple is also featuring two masks painted by Calgary-based artist Jordan Bourgeault. One belongs to New Jersey Devils No. 1 Jacob Markstrom, and the other belongs to Montreal Canadiens goaltender Sam Montembeau.
For Bourjo, who typically spends 15 to 20 hours “digitally painting a design” and an additional “200+ hours” painting each mask, being able to easily modify and share his work on the iPad Pro during the initial process is a big plus. Very important.
“iPads are great for saving time, especially during the design phase,” says Bourgeault. “I used to make mock-ups in pencil, but now I use my iPad to make a first drawing that looks like it was drawn in pencil, then show it to the goalie and draw it digitally. , I’m making sure they like where I’m going before I spend all my time adding colors and things like that… “Should I make the background black or white?” That alone is very helpful. You can easily paint on a bucket and think, “Oh, that’s nice,” or “No, I don’t like that.”
“I also refer to my iPad when I’m actually drawing, so instead of printing out a bunch of photos like I used to, I just tap the screen. I can zoom in for more detail.”
Bourgeault is best known for his “details,” as evidenced by Markstrom’s mask, which visualizes the Jersey Devil’s origin story based on folklore dating back to the 1700s. That’s equally evident in Montembeau’s new mask, which recreates the mechanical skull mask he painted for Canadian goaltender Carey Price in 2021, while also depicting legendary Canadian goaltender Jacques Plante, Reflects Ken Dryden, Patrick Roy.
Michael Demko’s latest creation, which continues the theme of Johnny Canuck reimagined as a zombie, is also featured in the campaign.
Gunnarson’s art is displayed on four masks. Jeremy Swayman of the Boston Bruins pays homage to the city by featuring statues of historical figures Paul Revere and William Prescott. Linus Ullmark of the Ottawa Senators and his Viking-style family initials. Stuart Skinner of the Edmonton Oilers combines a bear paw to represent his family with a mustache to represent his iconic facial hair. And after sticking to a brick wall and Eagles theme for his first three seasons in Toronto, it’s a brand new theme that Woll has thoughtfully crafted.
