We’ve been looking forward to the updated M4 Mac for months now. And the recent launch of the iPad mini 7 has raised concerns that Apple is running out of time to launch the device in 2024. Luckily, they’re still on track. According to a prominent leaker who revealed the schedule of Apple’s media event, it will arrive soon.
According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Garman, who frequently shares accurate information about Apple’s future plans and releases, the “imminent” update will be coming to the MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini. Now, in a new post on X (formerly Twitter), he has revealed that Apple will be “inviting media/creators to different appointment times throughout the day in my city of LA on October 30th.”
It seems likely that the October 30th event will not feature a video keynote speech, and the announcements will be “online only (video and press release).” If that date is the hands-on date for the new device, that means the M4 Mac will likely be announced sometime before that date, perhaps early next week.
In a further sign that an upgrade is underway, Garman previously said that “Apple retail inventory of the iMac, Mac mini, MacBook Pro, Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad is running very low.” said. This is often a sign that Apple plans to replace these existing products with new versions, something Gurman himself has previously reported.
In fact, some claim that the peripherals mentioned by Garman – the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad – will also be updated. This makes a lot of sense since Apple doesn’t have a USB-C port yet, but has recently added USB-C ports to the majority of its other devices.
Is it an event or a quiet announcement?
Garman previously predicted that Apple would release a new Mac with the M4 chip around November 1st. This has left Apple with little time to host in-person Mac events, given that attendees have little time to make travel arrangements, making it possible to host an online Mac event. This event was thought to be on the cards, but now it’s even more likely.
That’s the approach the company took at last October’s Scary Fast event, which also focused on new Mac releases.
Alternatively, Apple may simply decide to announce the new M4 Macs with a series of press releases. This may seem strange considering the Mac mini is expected to have an all-new design, but Apple may want to show off the product’s new look on stage.
But Apple has already introduced the M4 chip, which will power the latest iPad Pro in May 2024. So one of the biggest changes to the next Mac has already been known around the world over the past six months. Maybe you don’t need an event.
Even if Apple decides to unveil a new Mac lineup, it looks like these devices are still coming in the near future. Stay tuned for more news next week.
