Apple Intelligence’s ChatGPT integration and iPhone 16-only features Visual Intelligence may arrive sooner than expected as part of iOS 18.2.
The famous Mark Gurman had already hinted that ChatGPT integration would be coming to iOS 18.2, but beyond Apple’s promise of “later this year,” there was no information about the introduction of Visual Intelligence. This new information discovered on X by Aaron Perris shows references to “Siri with ChatGPT” and “Visual Intelligence” found within Apple’s code.
ChatGPT integration allows you to access chatbots via Siri on the latest models of the best iPhones. Meanwhile, Visual Intelligence takes full advantage of iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro’s camera controls, allowing you to snap images and search for results using AI. It is a competitor to Apple’s Google Lens.
Based on this information, we expect that both free Apple Intelligence upgrades may be available as part of iOS 18.2, which will soon be in beta. This comes at an exciting time for Apple users, with the leaked release date of iOS 18.1 and Apple Intelligence approaching on October 28th.
I found a new reference to “Siri with ChatGPT” in Apple’s backend. As expected, it seems likely that it will appear in iOS 18.2. pic.twitter.com/U6qkhSVy9kOctober 13, 2024
ChatGPT integration for Apple Intelligence
ChatGPT is the most popular AI tool in the world, and its inclusion in Siri will be a great addition to iPhone. Siri’s big Apple Intelligence upgrade won’t arrive until 2025, but the ChatGPT integration is a great transition until then. You can also have Siri access ChatGPT’s servers to create meal plans, summarize articles, write code, and more.
Another feature here, Visual Intelligence, is an iPhone 16 exclusive Apple Intelligence feature that uses Apple AI to search everything you can see. Simply take a photo using Camera Control, a new side button, and Apple Intelligence will provide information about what you’re looking at. Want to know restaurant opening hours? Got it! What about the breed of dog? Yes, you can do that too.
While this new information does not confirm that iOS 18.2 will include Visual Intelligence and ChatGPT integration, it is highly likely. So if you read the iPhone 16 review and are patiently waiting for Visual Intelligence, you might be in luck sooner or later.
