TL;DR

  • Apple is considering launching a rival product to its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in 2027.
  • It is also reported that the company is aiming to release AirPods equipped with a camera.
  • The company aims to develop further products that can take advantage of Vision Pro’s ability to understand its surroundings.

Developing the Vision Pro was an expensive endeavor for Apple, which is why the device is priced so high. The product has sold better than initially expected, but the iPhone maker is struggling to recoup its development costs. To recoup the money spent on making the headset, the Cupertino company hopes to make more products using Vision Pro’s technology.

According to bloombergApple’s Vision product group is working on “at least” four new products. One of the new products is smart glasses. Another product could be AirPods with a built-in camera. Both are expected to arrive in 2027.

In particular, smart glasses will not be AR glasses, but glasses with built-in cameras, speakers, and microphones. The glasses are said to be similar to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

If you’re wondering why Apple is working on smart glasses and camera-equipped AirPods, reports say the company is trying to recoup the billions it invested in Vision Pro. The company wants to apply Vision Pro’s visual intelligence – technology that can scan and understand your surroundings – to more products. Other than this, it’s unclear what makes these smart glasses more attractive than meta solutions or regular sunglasses.

Another product the team is said to be developing is a cheaper Vision headset, which could cost around $2,000. The lower-end Vision headset, which has an inferior chip, is made from cheaper materials and lacks EyeSight, is expected to be available early next year. There is also talk of a second-generation Vision Pro that will be released in 2026 with a more powerful processor.
