Apple released iOS 18.2 earlier this week with ChatGPT support, Image Playground, Image Wand, and Genmoji. However, the latter image generation feature required a waiting list, and many people were stuck on the waiting list. A small number of users had immediate access, but the majority of users were waiting without access to new features.
However, today a significant number of users are reporting that they have gained access.
On Friday, Apple issued a statement to developers, writing that the rollout would occur “in the coming weeks.” I got the impression that it would take a while, but it doesn’t seem like it would be that hard to wait.
Many users on social media have started reporting that they are now able to access this feature set over the past hour or so, and several I know personally have also started reporting that they were able to access this feature set in the last hour or so users were also unable to access the feature.
However, I believe there are still many users who do not have access to it.
Apple has repeatedly emphasized a set of responsible AI principles. As part of this, Apple is taking precautions to identify how its AI tools can be misused and lead to potential harm. This is in recognition of the fact that generative AI models, including those that power the image generation capabilities of iOS 18.2, can cause unexpected results.
“We take precautions at every stage of the process, including design, model training, feature development, and quality assessment, to ensure that our AI tools can be misused or lead to potential harm. “We will use user feedback to continuously and proactively improve our AI tools,” Apple promised when it first announced Apple Intelligence in June.
Did you get access to Genmoji and Image Playground today? Or are you still on the waiting list? Let us know in the comments.
