Apple’s chief human resources officer will step down in less than two years, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.
Carol Surface reported directly to CEO Tim Cook and oversaw Apple’s human resources, including hiring, employee relations, and inclusion and diversity. An Apple spokesperson confirmed the move to Bloomberg.
Her resignation comes as at least four other executives are leaving the company or changing roles.
In September, Apple’s App Store chief Matt Fisher announced on LinkedIn that he would be leaving the company this month after 21 years. He wrote that now is “the perfect time to pass the baton” as Apple reorganizes its teams to manage new challenges and opportunities.
Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri will step down in January, but will continue to report to Mr. Cook as head of Apple’s information systems and technology and real estate development, the company announced in August. Kevan Parekh, vice president of financial planning and analysis, will replace Maestri, the company wrote.
Bloomberg reported earlier this month that Dan Riccio, Apple’s vice president of engineering who led Vision Pro, will be stepping down after more than 26 years at the company. This was reported as a source familiar with the matter.
Dan Roskes, Apple’s head of global supply chain procurement, will also be stepping down after 24 years, Bloomberg reports.
Surface joined Apple in 2023 from medical hardware company Medtronic to oversee Apple’s more than 160,000 employees.
Apple employees were informed of Surface’s exit on Wednesday, a source familiar with the matter told Bloomberg, adding that Apple executive Deirdre O’Brien will be managing the Surface team. She previously held that role. Mr. O’Brien will continue to manage Apple’s retail stores.
An Apple spokesperson did not respond to BI’s request for comment.
