Apple released a new iPhone, a new Apple Watch, a new iPad mini, and a series of software updates this fall, but Mac hardware has not been mentioned so far. That’s set to change next week, according to an unusually cryptic post from Apple Worldwide Marketing SVP Greg Joswiak earlier today.
Recommend “Mac” to readers [sic] “Their Calendar,” Jozwiak’s post teases, “an exciting week of announcements begins Monday morning.” If the wordplay isn’t enough, the accompanying teaser video with its winking neon Mac logo will drive home the point.
Jozwiak’s post was light on additional details, but months of reliable rumors have told us what we can most likely expect. The refreshed MacBook Pro and 24-inch iMac have few changes on the outside, but they now feature a new Apple M4 series chip inside. The new M4 Mac mini has a completely redesigned design. The MacBook Pro and iMac were updated with the M3 chip almost exactly a year ago, while the Mac mini was last updated with the M2 chip in early 2023.
The new Mac mini is said to be similar in size to the Apple TV, and is said to be slightly taller than the current Mac mini, but with a smaller footprint. The new design still incorporates a space-saving internal power supply rather than relying on an external power brick, but relies more on the USB-C/Thunderbolt port to save space, as well as a number of other ports. will be reduced. At least some models will also have a USB-C port on the front, a design change carried over from Mac Studio.
