Apple released a slew of software updates today, including iOS 18.1, macOS Sequoia 15.1, and more. But there was another important software release that you may not have been aware of. If you’re not already running iOS 18, Apple’s new iOS 17.7.1 update includes important security fixes for your iPhone.
iOS 17.7.1 is recommended for all users not using iOS 18
iOS 17.7.1 is only available on iPhones that have not yet been upgraded to iOS 18 or 18.1.
If you’re still running iOS 17 on your iPhone or iPad for some reason, today’s 17.7.1 release is an important security update.

The listed fixes apply to features such as Safari, Siri, Shortcuts, and VoiceOver. These patched vulnerabilities keep your iPhone as safe as possible.
There are no other known changes in iOS 17.7.1. For now, these are all reserved for iOS 18 and above, so don’t expect any new features at all.
If your iPhone is compatible with iOS 18 but you’ve been waiting to upgrade, today’s iOS 18.1 release may be a good time to do so.
In addition to a variety of new features, this update also includes unique security and bug fixes that were not included in the initial iOS 18.0 release.
