Apple Pages beats Google Docs with this feature

Important points

  • Pages includes nearly 100 great-looking templates to quickly create documents across a variety of categories.
  • Users can easily create and customize their own templates in Pages on Mac (and in the template picker).[マイ テンプレート]section on any device).
  • Although not as feature-rich as Word or as collaborative as Docs, Pages is a great tool for quickly creating stylish documents.

There are several good reasons to choose Pages over Docs, and most people will agree that Google’s word processor is the better choice. But when it comes to creating great-looking things in an instant, Pages might be better.

Pages has nearly 100 templates

The feature that really stands out for people looking to polish up their documents in as little time as possible is the collection of templates that Apple bundles with Pages. You can choose from around 100 templates across various categories.

Some of the Apple Pages flyer and poster templates.

Templates are ready-to-use documents that you can quickly customize with your own text. A set of predefined styles and color schemes are used throughout to keep your document consistent and sleek-looking. When you first create a new document in Pages, you’ll be asked to choose a template.

These templates are the same whether you’re using Pages on a Mac, iPhone, or iPad. The interoperability of Apple’s office platform is a big reason to use Pages in the first place, but templates make creating documents even easier.

Additionally, these layouts are sleek and, in my opinion, much better than those included in the Google Docs Template Gallery (above). One advantage of Pages being less popular than Google’s web-based word processor is the fact that people are less likely to recognize the actual templates.

Page templates simplify common word processing tasks such as writing letters, school reports, essays, and resumes. In addition to this, there are also templates for more creative endeavors such as flyers and posters, book covers, newsletters, stationery such as postcards and invitations, certificates, and brochures.

In many cases, Pages automatically adds details such as your name, address (as long as it’s up-to-date with your contacts), and the current date. In other fields, you can simply click or tap to start writing, or paste text directly.

Create your own templates too

In addition to ready-to-use templates, Pages also lets you easily create your own templates. Once you have an outline of the look you like,[ファイル]>[テンプレートとして保存](on Mac) and give it a name. template picker[マイ テンプレート]section and pushed to all devices.

Create a new Pages template from your document.

For less traditional layouts, Pages is probably easier to use than Docs. Pages includes a huge range of shapes, and creating a text box is a little easier (this is hidden under Picture Tools in Docs). For creative work,[形式]>[配置]>[テキストの回り込み]using the dropdown[なし]allows you to place text boxes in creative locations without compromising the layout of your document.

You can also use an existing template as a starting point, customize it with your own colors and images, and save it as a modified version of your favorite template.

To do this, first[形式]Use boxes to change different classes of text in your document (title, header, body, etc.) and[更新]Click to update the styles for the entire document. . Once you have created the template the way you want it,[ファイル]>[テンプレートとして保存]use.

update "title" Styles in Pages documents.

You can also create your own templates in Google Docs. These basically take the form of regular documents that need to be expanded many times. You must be careful to make a copy of the template each time to avoid accidentally overwriting it.

Apple’s friendly word processor

Pages isn’t as great at features as Microsoft Word, and it’s not as complete as Google Docs when it comes to collaboration. But that doesn’t mean it should be written off either. Pages is free to download on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Pages plays an important role in the Apple ecosystem. Try it next time you need to quickly write a letter or finalize your resume.
