After a busy September with the new iPhone 16 lineup, updated Apple Watch, and fourth-generation AirPods, Apple appears ready to announce new devices this October. The tech giant is rumored to be planning updates to its Mac and iPad product lines, including new chips, possible design changes, and some unexpected additions. Details are still under wraps, but Apple could announce these products through a traditional event or a series of early morning press releases.
MacBook Pro upgrade expected
Following last October’s update where Apple introduced new chip options for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, this year will likely bring further chip increases to the M4 generation. Recent leaks suggest a new 14-inch MacBook Pro variant in a sleek space black finish, with a base M4 chip, 16GB of RAM, and an additional Thunderbolt port, making it a popular choice for typical users. It is equipped with functions that respond to requests.
A new look for Mac Mini
The Mac Mini could be getting its first major redesign in over a decade, with rumors suggesting a smaller, streamlined version without a USB-A port. The next model, expected to be powered by the M4 and M4 Pro chips, could be roughly the same size as an Apple TV box, bringing a fresh look to Apple’s compact desktop lineup. However, fewer ports can limit connectivity options, especially for creatives who often require multiple peripherals.
iMac and its accessories join the USB-C club
Apple’s colorful iMac, largely unchanged since 2021, could receive an M4 chip upgrade, along with new versions of the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard. These accessories are expected to switch from Lightning ports to USB-C ports, in line with Apple’s recent move to USB-C across its product range, including the latest iPhones.
iPad Mini’s long-awaited refresh
Apple’s smallest tablet, the iPad Mini, hasn’t been updated since 2021 with the A15 Bionic chip. The new model is expected to be powered by an M-series processor, with significantly improved performance, but it’s unclear whether it will feature the latest M4 or an earlier chip like the M2. Apple fans are also expecting a redesign of the entry-level 10.9-inch iPad, which could be released this month or early 2025.
What else will be announced?
Most rumors have focused on upgrades to Apple’s standard M4 chip, but it’s unclear whether the higher-performance M4 Max or M4 Ultra chips will be included in the refreshed Mac Studio or Mac Pro models. Popular with professional creators, these high-performance machines are currently powered by M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips and will likely be upgraded. However, Apple may choose to spread its chip announcements over multiple events, a strategy the company has used before.
