Are you excited about Apple’s October event? Read below to see what new products are coming.
Apple’s iPhone 16 launch event in September was packed with exciting new gadgets, but apparently it’s not over yet. Rumors are flying around about an event Apple will be holding in October, where the company is expected to announce more new and updated products. This change from the usual annual upgrade cycle may mean releases will occur more frequently. You may finally be able to say goodbye to frustrating delays.
So, what can we expect from the upcoming event? And when exactly will it happen? I’ve put together this handy guide to help you stay informed and prepared for all the exciting announcements. Be sure to check out what happens next!
When is Apple’s October 2024 event?
Apple has been hosting its October announcement event for quite some time, and we’ve already caught some leaks this year. However, it is worth noting that no events were held in October 2019 and October 2022. Considering past schedules, we estimate that the most likely date for this year’s event is either October 14th or 15th.
What to expect from Apple’s October event?
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Garman, Apple is preparing to unveil several products by the end of October. The plan is for at least some of these to be available on Friday, November 1st. Let’s take a closer look at what Garman predicts.
New MacBook Pro
You can expect an affordable 14-inch MacBook Pro (codenamed J604) with the M4 chip, as well as higher-end versions (J614 and J616) in both 14-inch and 16-inch sizes.
Russian YouTuber Wylsacom has given us a sneak peek at the much-anticipated 14-inch MacBook Pro featuring the M4 chip. The video shows off some cool upgrades, including a 10-core CPU and GPU (up from M3’s 8 cores). The base model also comes with a third Thunderbolt 4 port and 16GB of RAM for smoother performance and better connectivity. Improved Mac mini
The new Mac mini (J773) is available in M4 and M4 Pro chip configurations. Garman said this will be the first major redesign since 2010, when Steve Jobs introduced the mini.
It’s going to be much smaller, about the same size as an Apple TV. The new design is more compact, but may be taller than the current version, which stands at about 1.4 inches. The updated model retains its classic aluminum body.
Refreshed iMac
Future large-screen iMacs may follow the sleek design of the 24-inch iMac, Pro Display XDR, and Studio Display. Rumors suggest black bezels, and if it’s similar to the Pro Display XDR, it could feature thinner bezels and less chin for a cleaner look.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also suggested that the iMac will have a 32-inch display, matching the size of the Pro Display XDR.
Updated iPad mini
The iPad mini (J410) has also been updated. I really like the design of the iPad Mini 6. It has a luxurious feel. Additionally, the magnetic edge for Apple Pencil is very convenient for taking notes.
Some people might want a bigger redesign or a foldable version (but that’s not going to happen this year). Personally, I think it looks cool now. The size remains about the same at 7.7 x 5.3 x 0.25 inches. And unless you beef up the battery, the weight can remain at around 0.65 pounds.
I have a lot of hopes for the next iPad mini, even if it probably won’t come to fruition. But my biggest question is, will it have the A18 or will it stick with the A16? Is Apple really about to introduce a new device that can’t run Apple Intelligence?
Apple Intelligence release date
Apple has been pretty upfront about releasing Apple Intelligence this month, and now Gurman has confirmed that it will be released on October 28th. So if you’re someone who just got a new iPhone, you’ll have to wait patiently. It will take a few more weeks to access all the featured features.
The company takes its time to make sure everything runs smoothly. They want to squash any major bugs and ensure that their AI cloud servers can handle the new traffic that comes with these updates. It’s all about providing a stable experience when the rollout finally happens.
Upcoming Apple products
Garman predicts that Apple will start 2025 by announcing a number of new devices in the first half of 2025, including:
- upgraded air tag: A new interpretation of item finder accessories (B589).
- New MacBook Air: 13-inch and 15-inch models with M4 chips (J613 and J615).
- Improved iPhone SE: Please prepare for updated version (V59).
- Refreshed iPad Air: New 11-inch and 13-inch models (J607 and J637).
- new magic keyboard: Designed for the updated iPad Air lineup (R307 and R308).
This year, instead of discontinuing the Ultra 3 watch, Apple announced a sleek new black option for the Ultra 2. We also kept the Apple Watch SE as a budget-friendly option. This change really puts the spotlight on the flagship Series 10 watch, which has a fresh design and some exciting new features.
Ultra and SE will be updated in 2025, resulting in a biennial update schedule. The strategy appears to be a response to Apple’s slow pace of hardware innovation, allowing it to amass two years’ worth of features for a big launch.
On the Mac side, new versions of Mac Studio and Mac Pro with M4 chips are in development, but it could be a while before they hit the market. Garman suggests Mac Studio could arrive around the middle of next year. The Mac Pro, on the other hand, is likely to be released in the second half of 2025. Additionally, the iPhone 17 lineup and new Apple Watch are expected to arrive in the second half of 2025, along with the M5 Mac.
Thoughts of parting
We’re really looking forward to Apple’s October event. With all the buzz going around, it seems like there’s going to be some great new products coming out. I can’t wait to see what the M4 Mac Mini and iMac will be like!
