Apple announced a new generation of Mac mini on Tuesday. It’s impressively mini and much more compact than its predecessor. But the new Mac mini isn’t just about a new design; it’s also about amazing engineering. This shows that Apple is still great at building the best computers.
I’ve been a Mac user for a long time, and the Mac mini has always seemed great to me. Something ahead of its time. I was always amazed at how Apple was able to fit a full computer into a small package, given the limitations of the time.
The Mac family has been going through a tough time for a while (I’m looking at you, butterfly keyboard). But things seem to be back on track, especially after the transition to Apple Silicon Macs. The company promises that the move to its own chips will open up a world of new possibilities for the Mac, and we’re seeing it now.

The new M4 Mac mini is the culmination of many technologies Apple has introduced in recent years. I remember dreaming for years of a Mac mini the size of an Apple TV. Now we have done that to some extent. And the best part is, there are no compromises.
In the past, having a superportable machine usually meant giving up something in exchange. But the M4 Mac mini is not only the most compact desktop computer Apple has ever released, it’s also an extremely powerful desktop computer. For example, the base M4 chip has a faster CPU than the latest Mac Studio’s M2 Max. And the M4 Pro is even more powerful.
We’re talking about a computer about the size of an Apple TV that can render 8K video and run console-level games with ray tracing.
But it’s also nice to see Apple add more value to the Mac and give users what they want. Mac mini comes standard with 16 GB of RAM and also has numerous ports, including USB-C, Thunderbolt, Ethernet, and HDMI.
But what makes the Mac mini a really good choice, and perhaps one of the best options, is the price. Despite all these upgrades, Apple still sells it for the same $599 as the previous generation. It’s hard not to recommend the Mac mini to anyone who already has a desktop set up at home. It’s powerful, stylish, compact, and affordable.
