Cupertino, California Apple today announced that the first set of Apple Intelligence features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users are now available through a free software update with the release of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. Apple Intelligence harnesses the power of Apple Silicon to understand and create language and images, take actions across apps, and draw from personal context to simplify and speed up everyday tasks while improving privacy in AI. A personal intelligence system that takes an extraordinary step forward. The first set of features is available today, with more to come in the coming months.
“Apple Intelligence brings a new era to iPhone, iPad and Mac, delivering entirely new experiences and tools that transform what users can accomplish,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “Apple Intelligence builds on years of innovation in AI and machine learning, putting Apple’s generative models at the core of our devices to give users an easy-to-use personal intelligence system while protecting their privacy. Apple Intelligence is generative AI in a way that only Apple can deliver, and we’re excited about its ability to enrich the lives of our users.”
“Apple Intelligence unlocks exciting new features that make your iPhone, iPad, and Mac even better and more useful, from writing tools to refine your writing to summary notifications that reveal what matters most. It’s easy to create photos and videos just by explaining them,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering. “And it’s all built on a foundation of privacy with on-device processing and private cloud computing, a groundbreaking new technology that extends iPhone privacy and security to the cloud to protect your information. We’re excited to bring the first set of Apple Intelligence features to our users today, but this is just the beginning.”
System-wide burning tool
Writing tools deeply integrated into iOS, iPadOS, and macOS Users can refine their language by rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text almost anywhere, including in emails, messages, notes, pages, and third-party apps.
With Rewrite, Apple Intelligence allows users to choose from different versions of what they’ve written and adjust the tone (professional, concise, or friendly) to suit the audience and the task at hand. Proofreading checks grammar, word choice, and sentence structure, while also suggesting edits that you can review and quickly approve, along with an explanation of the edits. Users can also select text and summarize it in the form of easy-to-understand paragraphs, bullet points, tables, or lists.
A more natural and conversational Siri
Siri will be more natural, flexible, and deeply integrated into your system experience. An all-new design with elegant glowing lights that wrap around the edges of your screen when activated with your iPhone, iPad, or CarPlay. On Mac, users can place Siri anywhere on their desktop for easy access while working. Users can type into Siri anytime on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and use Siri to fluidly switch between text and voice to speed up everyday tasks. With richer language understanding capabilities, Siri can follow you when you stumble over words and maintain context from one request to the next. Additionally, Siri has extensive product knowledge and can answer thousands of questions about Apple product features and settings. Users can learn everything from how to record their screen to how to easily share Wi-Fi passwords.
An even more intelligent photo app
The Photos app is now even more intelligent with many new features. Natural language search allows users to search for almost anything by simply describing what they’re looking for, like “Maya skateboarding in a tie-dyed shirt.” This also works across videos, so users can search for what happened in a specific segment of the video and go there directly. Search also provides smart completion suggestions to help users complete their searches quickly.
If an unwanted object or person ends up in the frame of your photo, cleanup tools can help you remove distractions while staying true to the intended moment.
With the memory function, users can now create the movie they want to watch by simply entering a description.1 Apple Intelligence uses language and image understanding to select the best photos and videos based on your descriptions, create a storyline of chapters based on themes identified from the photos, and personalize them. arranged into a film with a story arc.
A new way to prioritize and stay focused
Staying on top of your email has never been easier. Priority Messages, a new section at the top of your Mail inbox, shows your most urgent emails, like same-day lunch invitations or boarding passes. Users can see summaries without opening messages in their inbox, and for long threads,[概要]You can tap or click to view related details. Additionally, Smart Reply provides suggestions for quick responses and identifies questions within emails to ensure everything is answered.
Apple Intelligence helps users prioritize and be in the moment with Notification Summary, which lets users scan long or stacked notifications with important details directly on the lock screen, such as when a group chat is particularly active. Let’s make it understandable. A new focus on ‘Reducing interruptions’ will only show you notifications that may require your immediate attention.
Notes and Phone apps now allow users to record, transcribe, and summarize audio. Participants are automatically notified when a recording begins during a call in the Phone app, and when the call ends, Apple Intelligence generates a summary to help remember important points.
More features coming soon
New Apple Intelligence features will be available in December, with additional features rolling out in the coming months.
Apple Intelligence adds new ways for users to express themselves visually. Taking emojis to a whole new level, you can create your own source characters by simply entering a description, or even customize them with photos of your friends and family. Image Playground allows users to quickly create playful images. Image Wand makes your notes more visually appealing by turning your rough sketches into fun images. When a user surrounds an empty space, the Image Wand uses the context of the surrounding area to create an image.
In December, the writing tools will become even more powerful, adding the ability for users to write specific changes they want to make to text. For example, you can make a dinner party invitation read like a poem or add dynamic action words to your resume. Users also have the option to access ChatGPT’s extensive world of knowledge within Writing Tools and Siri, allowing them to benefit from its image and document understanding capabilities without having to jump between tools.
Also in December, new visual intelligence experiences will be built on Apple Intelligence to help users instantly learn about objects and locations thanks to new camera controls in the iPhone 16 lineup.2 Users will be able to get details about the restaurant and interact with the information right in front of their eyes. For example, you can translate text from one language to another.3 Camera Control also acts as a gateway to third-party tools with specific domain expertise, such as when a user wants to search Google for where to buy an item, or when they want to benefit from ChatGPT’s problem-solving skills. I will. Users can control when they use third-party tools and what information they share.
In the coming months, we’ll see even more improvements as Priority Notifications reveals what matters most and Siri will be able to use your personal context to provide you with personalized intelligence. Sho. Siri will also be visible on your screen, allowing you to perform hundreds of new actions within and across Apple and third-party apps.
Revolutionary privacy protection
Designed to protect your privacy every step of the way, Apple Intelligence uses processing on your device. This means that many of the models that power Apple Intelligence run entirely on-device. For requests that require more processing power, Private Cloud Compute extends the privacy and security of your Apple devices to the cloud, unlocking even more intelligence. When you use Private Cloud Compute, your data is never stored or shared with Apple. It will only be used to fulfill their requests. In an industry first, independent experts can now inspect the code running on Apple Silicon servers to continuously verify this privacy promise. This is an extraordinary step forward for privacy in AI.
Users can choose whether to enable ChatGPT integration, which is available as part of using visual intelligence with Siri, lighting tools, or camera controls. Users can access ChatGPT for free without creating an account, and it has built-in privacy protections. Your IP address is hidden and OpenAI does not store your requests. OpenAI’s data usage policy applies to users who choose to connect their accounts.
