Apple announced its iPhone 16 lineup last year, but so far it’s still missing the AI features the company promised at its WWDC event. Upgrading to an iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro model doesn’t change anything, especially from the iPhone 15 Pro, so users are stuck with their current device. A prominent analyst claims that Apple Intelligence will not affect iPhone 16 sales as the company has reduced iPhone 16 orders by 10 million units. From Q4 2024 to H1 2025 time frame.
Apple cuts iPhone 16 shipments by 10 million units due to lack of evidence that Apple Intelligence impacts sales
Apple has made significant changes to the standard iPhone 16 models, but the overall design language remains the same. As for the “Pro” model, the lack of design innovation is obvious and that may be the reason that limits some users from sticking with the current model. The introduction of camera control buttons was also not a huge advancement for Apple as it was not very practical for users.
That being said, the tech community as well as the general public are waiting for Apple to introduce Apple Intelligence, which could pave the way. However, Ming-Chi Kuo speculates that there is no evidence that Apple Intelligence will increase iPhone shipments in the short term. He also claims that Apple cut orders for the iPhone 16 by 10 million units between the fourth quarter of this year and the first half of next year. This shows a major downturn for Apple.
Kuo argues that some markets are optimistic about the arrival of Apple Intelligence and its applications in the real world, which could have a positive impact on iPhone shipments. Apple Intelligence could prove to be a profitable service in the long run, but it remains to be seen whether it can sustain the demand for the latest model.
Some market participants are optimistic that Apple Intelligence could soon dramatically increase iPhone shipments. However, Apple’s recent order cuts suggest that these optimistic expectations may not materialize in the short term.
We think the company is in dire need of introducing a design change to its iPhone lineup, as the company has stuck to the same layout for years. We recently reported that the iPhone 17 Air will be the company’s new model with Apple Intelligence, but it remains to be seen whether the entire lineup will adopt this change. The iPhone 17 Air is reported to feature an ultra-thin design with a single-lens camera sensor on the back, and looks a lot like the iPhone SE 4. Do you think Apple’s intelligence has what it takes to improve the iPhone? 16 shipments?
