Did you read it long? Making it even simpler…
What’s the story?
Apple officially launched the long-awaited feature Apple Intelligence with the public release of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1.
The debut of Apple Intelligence gives users access to a plethora of advanced AI capabilities. These include writing tools for proofreading, rewriting, and summarizing text.
The new update also brings live transcription of calls and audio in the Notes app, and also improves the convenience of generating summaries from these transcriptions.
Siri gets a makeover
The launch of Apple Intelligence also marks the beginning of a major overhaul of Siri.
You can now type requests and questions to the previously voice-only Assistant.
If you prefer to talk, Siri has been enhanced to understand your requests even if you stutter or interrupt.
Siri’s UI has also been updated, with a glowing border around the screen when activated.
Apple Intelligence is currently available on select devices
Apple Intelligence is currently available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 lineups.
Not only M-series iPads and Macs support this feature, but also the new A17 Pro-powered iPad mini.
However, access is limited to those who have their device and Siri language set to US English.
Apple plans to expand availability to more countries and languages in December, but due to regulatory issues, it won’t immediately offer its AI tools in the EU or mainland China.
iOS 18.1 introduces additional features
In addition to Apple Intelligence, iOS 18.1 also brings other features, including the ability to use AirPods Pro as a commercial hearing aid.
This update also makes it easier to change the primary email address associated with your Apple account.
However, we’ll have to wait for other promised features from Apple Intelligence previewed in the recently released developer betas of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2.
Future updates and language support
Apple plans to add localized English support in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom in December.
The April 2025 update will also expand support for languages other than English.
Newly supported languages include Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (Spain), and Vietnamese. Masu.
Apple also says that unspecified “other languages” will be added.
