APPLE is reportedly planning more vision-based products and could even include a camera in its AirPods.
The iPhone maker recently launched the Apple Vision Pro headset. This is the company’s first new major product category since the launch of the Apple Watch in 2015.
However, the base model costs a whopping £3,499/$3,499.
Rival Meta has a rival called Quest, but the one everyone is talking about is Meta Ray-Ban.
The social network owned by Mark Zuckerberg recently unveiled upgrades to his AI smart glasses that allow users to speak other languages and ask questions aloud.
And, according to Bloomberg, Apple may be considering developing a similar product.
The publication claims that Apple is considering its own type of Meta Ray-Ban in 2027 using some of the technology from Apple Vision Pro.
But what’s even more interesting is that Apple might launch AirPods with cameras.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of a product like this.
In July, it was reported that rather than taking photos, it could be an infrared camera similar to the one used for Face ID on iPhones.
The move will be made as a way to recoup some of the billions of dollars spent developing Vision Pro’s visual intelligence technology.
This is what’s happening with the iPhone 16, which has visual intelligence and allows users to scan the area around them.
Meta has not disclosed how well its AI Ray-Ban glasses have performed since their launch last year.
More than 700,000 pairs have been shipped, according to data provider IDC.
The Sun’s Sean Keach tries Metaspec
Sean Keach, Sun’s Director of Technology and Science, had the opportunity to wear Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses at Meta headquarters…
I wear glasses every day, so the idea of wearing glasses is not completely foreign to me.
However, convincing someone with perfect eyesight to wear glasses can be a little difficult.
Mark Zuckerberg and his friends think they recorded it with their Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. This is functional enough for you to consider signing part of your face to them.
I’ve had the opportunity to see probably 20 different shapes and sizes of glasses, and many of them look great.
The only obvious downside is that they are a little bulkier than regular glasses, but it’s not a big deal. Especially not when it comes to buying sunglasses. This is because larger specs make you feel more comfortable.
Anyway, once I started it, using Meta AI was very easy.
Just say “Hey Meta” and then make a simple request.
I’ve used it to instantly translate signs from Spanish to English, scan QR codes, and remind myself to buy something later.
It was very easy and worked eerily well. It really felt like I had an AI assistant in my brain.
It would be a game-changer if Meta added the ability to analyze the video of what users are watching and live translate the language.
However, I haven’t been able to test either feature yet.
What I’m saying is that even without the bonus features that will be added in the future, it still feels like a worthwhile purchase for gadget fans.
Even if you don’t use any AI, having a camera on your face is a lot of fun. And yes, you can also control it with your voice.
